Can I claim when not directly in an accident?
The other day I was stuck on the motorway for 3 hours not moving because of an accident about a mile ahead. I am paid by the hour and therefore lost 3 hours work and 3 hours pay.
I am wondering if there is any way I can find out the insurer of the person who caused the accident (assuming that someone was at fault) and ask for compensation as I am out of pocket due to an accident caused by their driver?
I know it\'s a bit of a long shot, but if someone caused me to lose out because of their dangerous driving or whatever why shouldn\'t I be able to claim just as someone who had their car damaged can?
No-one was seriously hurt in this incident, I wouldn\'t be thinking about this if someone had been. I do get extremely frustrated when driving on motorways and I see people tailgating / changing lanes without indicating / undertaking etc which can cause accidents and if this accident was caused by one of these reasons I don\'t see why I (and the thousands of other drivers stuck in that queue) should be penalised.
Anyway I know it\'s a reall really really long shot just wondered what anyone thinks!
Many thanks :-)

Traffic caused by accidents IS annoying.... but those stuck in traffic just have to suffer an inconvenience.. what about those involved in the accident. Even if they suffer no injury - they could be traumatised from it.
Drive safely!

Yeah alright I thought it was a long shot!
And I don't really get your comment about being an MP - I have been directly penalised as a result of this accident, and I have lost out wages because of it. Hardly the same thing as an MP making the taxpayer pay for their dog food / razor / HD tv is it?
I am stuck at home this morning AGAIN because of an accident, and I'm not just thinking about me I'm thinking about the thousands and thousand of other drivers who are stuck in traffic possibly because someone was driving dangerously.
