Selling old Gold
16 Answers
Well that was a close one ....lol
I have some scrap gold to sell and see these ads on TV.
So I guessed they would not give good prices.
But having checked a few out , the prices are very good.
So just tried calling two of them , just to ask a couple of questions.
Both gave 0800 free phone uk numbers and have uk address for postage of gold.
But on calling the 0800 number both redirected my call to a us number , that is only answered between the hours of 08:30 and 18:00 East coast us time ...
Then having listened to the message someone answered my call.
I tried to ask a couple of simple questions ....
Such as can you sell over the counter ?
Can I visit your address in the uk?
To both questions , I had a 2 second time delay due to the call being international and the call rep could not hear or understand my questions....
Now imagine trying to get help , if something goes wrong ?????
Put me off the whole thing now ....

Having checked the scrap gold prices on the cookson metals web site ...these guys on the TV were offering 4 to 5% more ...but no way now !
Will go to local shop and sell.
It's all junk I want to sell ....but based on the scrap prices for 9ct and 18ct and some is 24ct ...it works out at £600+ ....
May as well cash in while the gold price is high.
Once the world comes back down to earth and understands that dumping the Green Back as a reserve currency will be an expensive hobby ...then the $ will rise again and gold drop in value.
Now what price did Gordon Clown sell our gold reserves at ?
I know a metal trader in the city and he told me how they all pleaded with the government not to sell at that moment . But it fell on deaf ears.
Now of course that some of the gambling companies have had a bad year and thus stocks are depressed , he is now thinking of selling the Tote !!!!! .....Does this man no nowt about the city !!!!

Randy - I went to a gold shop last week and was told the price is/was £4.75 per ounce.
I actually took a link bracelet that I had bought in Spain many years ago, it had 375 on the clasp which is 9ct gold and the bloke weighted it and said he would give me £56.00 - thats a result I thought - then he produced a little bottle of acid and put some on one of the links - yep, it went green. Turns out only the lobster claw clasp was 9ct the rest was, well, have'nt got a clue.

For current yard stick on Gold prices go to the Cookson Metals scrap gold prices web site ....Google it
Current price is approx £7 per gram for 9ct.
They have an office in London that will give you that price over the counter.
Anyway just contacted a local shop , who offer £4 per gram !
The TV ads ...they were offering 4 to 5% above Cooksons prices ...so very good ...but just risky , if things go bad and you have to deal with a call centre based in the USA and open only US East coast times.

I sold mine for just over a grand, not bad hey for broken chains, the odd earrings and a few rings that hadn't been worn for years also bracelets that had broken. Sold mine at the jewellery quarters in Birmingham. You have to shop around as some shops offer more for the gold than others and depending what percentage they take for commision.
And another con ....
Just called another company that advertises on the TV !!!!!!
What do you pay per Gram for 9ct ....
We don't give values over the phone ...we have to weigh it and test it first ...she says ...
But I just want to know what you pay per gram for 9ct , once you have weighed it !
Sorry sir we don't give prices out over the phone she says !!!!!!
Eeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr....
