Thanks samurite & chelle 7272. Afraid my O-level French wasn't up to such phrases as "a l'outrance". Not a lot of call for "to the death" in any of the material we used in the 50's at school. And I know that it's meant to be hard but "runon" as one word is cheating a bit as they claim to use Chambers as their standard reference.
