my computer won't play m2ts video files

Got a prob I am hoping someone more computer minded can help me with.

Have a Sony Vaio vgn-a215z laptop comp running windows Xp Home edition with service pack 2 (comp is 4 yrs old)

Just bought a Panasonic TZ7 digital camera which can also make hi-def video clips which according to the instruction manual records in AVCHD Lite/Quick Time Motion Jpeg format.

Ive made a couple of videos which i have loaded onto my comp with the intention of then putting them on facebook.

the camera came with software which i have used to load the videos onto my comp, the software is called PhotofunStudio, also included was the latest QuickTime software.

I have saved the video clips in "My Videos" and also the PhotofunStudio saves a copy. In PhotofunStudio the video clips play back no problems but the ones I have saved in "My Videos" will not play. The files in "My Video" are saved in m2ts format which Quick Time does not recognize and which Windows Media player will not play either. I have tried using the "open file with" search facility but it comes up with nothing.

My question is how can I play the m2ts videos on my comp? Do i need to convert them to Jpeg? why is my camera not recording the images or loading them onto the comp as a Jpeg video like the book says it is meant to? Do I have to download add-ons to my media players?

you've not got the correct codecs installed for play that type of file,

install the klite codec pack and you should be able to play them

(BTW JPEG are still picture files,.not movie files)

Download and use VLC instead of Media Player.Much better and should play your files.

you would think that with a brand new camera that included quicktime software that quicktime would play the files wouldn't you ?

I have just using VLC to play my mts files. Nowadays with the release of Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac, i just use it to convert my files to MOV, AVI, MP4, etc format for playing on Mac. Or merge my mts files without conversion for burning to Blu-ray and playing with BD player.
