Trying again with one that 'bugged' me yesterday in this so-called 'Quick' crossword!
3d. tied-up (7) ?e?g?e?
The only thing I have been able to come up with is 'weighed'
Polly yesterday suggested 'tangled' but the first 'e' is pretty definite being part of the solution 'native' to the clue 'indigenous'
Would like to be put out of my misery! Grateful thanks to anyone who might be able to help.

Thanks Soosilvy - I flirted with 'secured' at some point last night but it doesn't fit in with another answer. The 'g' in 'weighed' is the first 'g' in 'gigantic' which is my solution to the clue 'great' (8) of which the second g, the n and the i are pretty firm.

Hi Guernseyman - just when I thought this interesting exploration was at an end you offer another possibility. 'berthed' sounds better but I really need a 'g' in the answer to give me the first 'g' in gigantic as the answer to 'great' (8). The second 'g', the 'n' and the 'i' in 'gigantic' are critical. Soosilvy - Thanks for your persistency but 'hugeness' with its 'h' would scupper 'weighed' and 'secured' as well as upset the second 'i' in 'finite' which is my solution to 6d 'limited' (6). cwaddict

No guarantee but they seem to be okay.

Many thanks Billbo - I've only just been able to return to the computer. You've clearly come up with the right solutions - leashed and splendid being the two that were bugging me. I did have 'realm' much earlier but then spurned it. Can't remember having such difficulty as on this occasion. Thanks again everybody who contributed to the task.

I have:
3D - REIGNED
5D - STICK OUT
10A - GALACTIC
which seem to work just as well.

However I can't get 16D Flowering Shrub (--A-O-), 19D Chaos (-A-G-) or 15A Bird (---A-). Must be dim - but I can't work out what these are.
