MM Links Solutions January 2010 [Week 1]

Well, The Regal Roslyn (aka roslyn251254) was unable to hide behind Mathematics to hold off the sniping AB Linkers, who proved more than a match with their “vulgar” minds. Of course, I am referring to her chosen links:

Prime SUSPECT
RHESUS Factor
Multiple BIRTH(S)
VULGAR Fraction!

In spite of these sophisticated link words, RR lasted only four minutes before all her links had been discovered. I take the view that MM Linking is psychological. Half the entrants are “logical” and the other half are …(?) I wonder how Pauline is doing!

The first decisive attack came from a prompt miss meg with MULTIPLE BIRTH and VULGAR FRACTION for FOUR POINTS. Quick to cash in on their “vulgar” sides came Strix, slaney, ciffyg and (fellow mathematician) Grenmus ~ what a motley crew! Around the same time came surprise early visits from three others with more to offer than Vulgar Fractions!

First came “The Car Boot Goddess”, evsajo, with her Multiple Births and PRIME SUSPECT to claim an unprecedented (for her?) FOUR POINTS! (Aside: evsajo ~ you can have a “Common” Factor but not a “Common” Fraction) Another Four-Pointer was registered by (recent winner) grannydi AND the awesome ulysses100 who managed to pick off the very last RHESUS FACTOR with a time standing at only 09.04.

Both centrino and Jools secured a bonus point each before the clock ran down and hits began to be worth only one point. However, those worthy of mention were BigMac (welcome back), (the mighty) gen2 and (the irrepressible) SHAZZA, each picking up two Points. Over the entire game, a dozen entrants picked up a single point, including newcomer rockfordill (well done!). You will note that, although the theme was mathematical, you cannot assume that the links words are.

I also picked up on new names kawakiri, tremar and Fibonacci (well known on AB but not on MM Links methinks). Yet another mathematician I’ll warrant! Anyway, welcome to you all! From the four entrants who pulled in FOUR POINTS, I would like to award the coveted title of “Hot Shot of the Week” to evsajo (a rare event indeed and less frequent than a visit from Halley’s Comet)!

Well it hasn’t taken us long to get back into the swing of things. I’ve just had my system overhauled and will be practising tomorrow, so that I’ll be more confident next week.

Well that's a turn up for the books!!! I bet you were shocked Crofter, and has been noted was hot shot on KM links last week with SIX points. As you may have gathered from some comments I have moved house and now live in the Dolls house (it's very small!!!) The reason I am around at the moment is Snow stopped Car Boot Sales!!!
Thanks for the "Common" explanation Crofter, I was always rubbish at maths!!! I too should have got the Rhesus Factor cos I am missing it too!!!!
Anyway thanks for your links Roslyn, nice to know I am on the same wavelength as someone!!!!........and a very BIG thank you to Crofter for working out my massive score (and for comments!!! especially "let the crowd gasp "WHO" ? that really made me laugh!!) For some reason I seem to be better at getting the MM links compared with KM, so nice to see mentions in despatches ; but surely a piece of hyperbole to call me "awesome", crofter ! Well done Roslyn and I look forward to next weekend's challenge.
