Music Magazines in the 70's

Does anyone know the name of the magazine that used to be avaiable in the 1970's which just contained the words to popular songs of the day ? Was this the same magazine as Melody Maker ? which I seem to remember as a newspaper format the word magazine I am trying to think of was smaller booklet type one.

jack, I have a massive pile of Smash Hits in my loft!

Disco 45 was a bit before my time but my sister used to buy it (it's her 50th birthday today!). I used to swipe hers and sing along when the Top 40 was played on Radio 1 on a Sunday evening.

Fab 208? nope.. I remember Fab ice lollies though ;o)

I used to write for 'Melody Maker' - any readers on here? My pseudonym was 'Simon Scott' and I wrote features on Rainbow, and dozens of reviews of bands at Midlands venues - my car used to go to the Birmingham Odeon on its own!

I'm sorry but tis true that Neil Tennant was the editor of Smash Hits back in the early eighties.

Nope, urban myth. He worked on Smash Hits as a writer and occasional assistant editor, but was never actually editor. The editors were:

Yes, Disco 45 is the obvious answer. But it had a rival called Words (I think). Same format/size but two-colour print (black and a different colour for every fortnightly issue). How I wish I'd kept all my old copies...
