2 I think swede is the answer to this.
1 scarifying...or so I am informed by my resident gardener...
Forget the last answer..he's changed his mind.....

3. Swedes are supposed to taste better after the first frost. My father, who was a keen gardener, always left the swedes in the ground till they got a frosting.
Can't think of the name for this. You "harden off " plants sometimes before planting but have never heard of "frosting "plants.
The resident gardener has come up with what he says is a better suggestion for 'frosting'
