Cheryl Cole - yet Again

I saw this mornings posts and understood where Bobbi was coming from but..................

Although Cheryl Cole is a very attractive young lady who has made good, why is she being treated like some angelic icon. She has no special talents and has got where she is mainly because of her looks. No problem, good luck to her.

but again.....................

Why is her divorce newsworthy and why is it getting extensive national news coverage? Surely the vast majority of people can't be interested in her or her hubby - there must be more important issues to cover at such great length on the BBC news. I just don't understand any more.

She's becoming somewhat of a national treasure with her girl-next-door-geordie-girl-made-good image. Her popularity has risen since being on the x-factor.

Her innocence and general amiable qualities has put her in good stead with the general public throughout her marital difficulties.

I suppose its got no more or less coverage than the Peter Andre/Katie Price split up. UKs great obsession with pointless celebrity trivia I'm afraid!

I agree with you totally.

I've never understood the fascination that we as a nation appear to have with other people's private lives, especially those of celebrities. Why do people watch Big Brother? Why do people read The Sun? Have we really filtered our education system so much that this now passes for entertainment?

I remember that Inspektor! She wasn't exactly very well behaved and was seen then to be loud mouthed and rather 'common' to use a rather old fashioned word. I don't want to run her down, but I am so fed up with hearing her name these days. Surely people aren't that interested and if they are - well why?

not really wanting to go over old ground LL, my thread did start off as a Cheryl Cole thread and deteriorated downhill, till I ended up defending all young girls being branded unfairly as prostitutes, I have to say it was an eye-opener to hear the comments of a mature person but he is entitled to his opinion

Bobbi. I don't want to actually say whether I like her or not, because I don't know her. Just wanted to say that I don't know why there is so much interest in her. The only thing I will say is that she can't sing!

Max Clifford takes on Tweedy.......little woman at home, whilst husband is out sh@gging, rotten devil......etc etc...that's what the public want to hear about and that is where the money is................he will take on Tweedy......not Cole.

Agree 100%. It is a very worrying trend that it would appear that a good percentage of the current population care about so called celebrities in the way that they do. Is that it or do the media think that that is the case? I for one couldn't care less about Cheryl Cole or her marriage. Ditto Katie Price.

I think Cheryl Cole is lovely... sweet looking girl and I bet she is a lovely person too... Have to say I am not interested in Celeb's lives in the least and dont read any Celeb gossip magazines.... I guess someone must be buying them or else they wouldnt make them... However I feel very sorry for her that her private life is now being shouted out in the press... I would hate to live my life like that!
I guess she is what young people aspire to these days - young, rich, famous... not necessarily talented... after all if they can do it - why cant the next John Smith...

I quite like the girl as she does come across as quite genuine and warm-hearted.
True the toilet incident, which took place 7 years ago, wasn't good but she's obviously grown up since then.
I think she's a lovely looking girl who has worked hard to get where she is today, and feel very sorry that her marriage has broken down, as I would for anyone in the same situation.
Now will Simon dump the new fiancee and go for Cheryl instead?

Too long Vibra. But I don't see that she deserves lunch time news coverage with film shot at the airport of her arriving back and having police escorts etc. (probably only a couple of minutes), but there must be other more interesting news.

I've stopped watching the main TV channels over the last week Lottie due to the fact I am sick to death with hearing about her marriage breakdown on every current affairs programme and most news programmes. The internet is even worse, I can't get away from her!

I didn't really want this thread to go down the route of whether we like her or not - just why we are so interested in her. To me she doesn't even have any talent! I think it's a sad world where someone like Cheryl Cole and her marriage becomes a main news item. Surely it could just be left to the Celebrity Gossip Pages or Celebrity TV shows. I've no real feelings about the girl herself. I don't know her.
