If it helps squabbish is defined as thick, fat, heavy and I can see squish or squash in there.

Oops, re 19 DOWN, actual solution to be entered (less the 'B's) is 7, not 8 letters.
So it looks like SQUABBISH, entered as SQUAISH

That makes 26 ACROSS

I think oldred's onto something. Remove the Bs from squabbish and you're left with 'I' (the crossword setter) in squash. Are you sure the 'T' is right?
