I have had a cold for the last couple of days and have been coughing and sneezing hard. Last night, i woke up with a really sharp pain behind my left eye. I put it down to the coughing and sneezing. However, it didn't feel like a "normal" headache at all. It seems to be worse when i stand up and the blood rushes there. I took paracetamol but that didn't help.
It is still aching and am a little worried as it is only behind my left eye, whereas headaches tend to be behind both. It is a very very strong pain bordering on unbearable..
My doctor is fully booked today so was wondering whether anyone has had this kind of pain before and knows what it could be.
you could have ruptured a blood vessel from the pressure caused by sneezing. This can sometimes cause a stroke, 1 of the sypmtoms of which is a 1 sided headache. go to a and e don't risk it!
Thank you. I have been ill in bed and unable to get up. I phoned NHS Direct and they told me to take some Ibruprofen as that would stop the swelling. So far it's worked but will go to A and E if prob persists.
