Saying thank you
15 Answers
I have noticed increasingly that people are not saying thank you or answering response questions anymore.
I think that this is because you no longer get an email when you receive a response unless you subscribe to your own question.
Surely if you ask a question on answerbank then you want an answer. So why does answerbank not automatically make the asker subscribe to his/her question?
Just a thought.

If I post a serious question I frequently check it out to see if a response was posted. I'm guessing this is what most would do; when you see an answer was posted it takes nothing then to acknowledge the responder, and say thank you.

I know what you mean Society. But if you don't subscribe and you don't realise that you have to subscribe. Then you may never know that you have received an answer. So maybe not everyone is being rude but just thinking they have not had a response.
By the way. After I asked this question I did actually forget to subscribe to the question..... I did in the end rememeber though.

I do agree. I also check pretty much daily. But in the olden days of answerbank you didn't have to subscribe and I must admit for a while I did wonder why I was not getting replies. But I actually was getting replies but not being told about it. Sometimes you may ask a question and somebody may answer possibly months later. I may not spot that reply as I may not check that question anymore. For example I asked about parking in Cardiff a few years ago. I actually got a reply a year later. I had already been and come back from Cardiff about ten months before. But it was still interesting to get a reply. I don't want to miss anything and I really love the Answerbank and I don't want people getting upset if people are not responding. I hope that the reason for no response are the reasons I mentioned in this question.
I have been posting on Ab for quite some time now,and I think stoofur has a very valid point.
On "OLD" AB you always got an email to notify you on a new reply to your question, granted sometimes (with many replies) that could be a little bit of a nuisance;but better that than no emails!
I have noticed since "NEW" AB was instituted I get very few "Thank You's" or even a reply added to the original question/answer.
It's one of these things that AB keeps promising to fix but never does, and then goes on to fiddle with things that don't need fiddling with, and offer things we don't want/need,like Twitter!

I have asked a few questions lately after a considerable break and was disappointed that I didn't get emails from AnswerBank telling me I had an answer as I would prefer that than having to keep looking on AnswerBank to check. I have seen the "Subscrbe to Question" and the "I want to subscribe to this thread" tickbox but have no idea how to use them. Can somebody explain the new system to me?
Thanks stoofur though I'm still not sure whether you mean the peach-coloured bar "Subscribe To Question" or the small tickbox "I want to subscribe to this thread". Neither make sense to me as surely I am "subscribing" by asking the question in the first place? I actually asked AnswerBank early in March why I was no longer receiving emails letting me know when I had an answer but ironically have had no answer.
Hello Felly,
This is exactly the point I am making. Even if you ask a question you do not automatically subscribe to your own question. Therefore you have to subscribe to the question you have asked. I usually click on the peach button but I don't think it matters which you choose.
As you (and I) have demonstrated it is not obvious that if you ask a question you will not receive notifications of answers unless you subscribe to the question. Which to me (and you I think) is counterintuitive. So come on Answerbank. Make the question asking more logical by automatically making the asker subscribe to the question.
