demanding to see a specialist

hiya im asking this question on behalf of my cousin whos little boy aged 3 is having 'funny turns' when he hurts himself. Basically whenever he falls he blacks out and stops breathing, his eyes roll to the back of his head and it takes a few minutes to come round, which is extremely distressing and worrying to see. He's been doing this for 2 years now. He has had brain scans, tests on his heart and blood test and all of these have concluded nothing. The hospital told them that they dont know whats causing this and sent them on a course to learn recussiation and told also that this is something that they will have to learn to live with and that they should be prepared for the fact that one day he may not come round! We as a family find this absolutley shocking, there is obviously something wrong with him and what we want to know is can you DEMAND to be refered to a specialist, even if its in another place in the country? Is there anyone else who has had the same problem?

that sounds awful, it must be terrifying for them all and understandably they want to know the cause of this.
But unless they have a diagnosis then how would anyone know what specialist to send them too?

I am sorry to hear your cousin's problems, I have not been in the same situation, but this site might give you some advice. I hope you can get it sorted, it must be very frightening for all.

Boy of 3 blackouts.
Cardiovascular and neurological tests normal.
Sounds like petit mal attacks.

It would be perfectly reasonable to ask for a second opinion.......not DEMAND one.
