Idle Chatter - Rape - Easter

I've just come back with my morning paper.

I can't believe this ... !

During The Pope's Easter Address in St Peter's Square, yesterday, the only reference to the revelation that hundreds of Priests have been exposed as paedophiles came from Cardinal Angelo Sodano (an oddly pertinent name!).

Cardinal Sodano's angle on the revelations? ... "The Church will not be intimidated by idle chatter".

"Idle chatter" ???

Revelations about the paedophile rape of children is "idle chatter" ???

And The Vatican claims that the media, blowing the gaff on all these rapist Priest, amounts to a "smear campaign" !

Well, so much for the religious significance of Easter, then.

Grrrrrrr ... I'm feeling grumpy about this.

The protection of the integrity of the church is paramount, even though it may jeopardise the safety of the community of which it purports to advice.

the Catholic Church has always considered itself to be above normal laws.

It's about time they were taken down a peg or two, locking the pope up for harbouring criminals ought to do it.

Agree with everyone's comments JJ ! No wonder religion has a bad name, it causes too much conflict in todays society. I was brought up a Christian in the C of E but no longer a believer.
Closest I get to Christianity these days is Monty Python.

I'm back, after a few "calming" coffees.

It's just such a blood-boiling story.

Millie, you're right about it being individuals at fault. But, those individuals ARE the Church. They are the group of indivuals who, together, proclaim themselves the chosen medium for God's divine guidance ... ie. the Church.

And it's not as though it was lower level clerics, or church wardens raping these children ... it was the Priests !
