Listener 4084: Oh Yes It Does! by BeRo

This is fun, possibly a good introduction to the Listener genre for newcomers, without compromising quality. There are still some words no-one could be expected to know out of there usual vocab, but they're all well enough clued and findable even in my 2003 Chambers. I would be interested to know if others share my observation that there's some ambiguity in the instruction concerning the seven word phrase: I tried one plausible method before I was sure of all my letters and got nonsense, but it emerged soon enough after by another way of understanding.
Thanks to BeRo for an amusing take on clue construction and a pleasant journey towards (for me) a familiar place.

Unusually for me managed to complete this in one session this afternoon. Particularly enjoyed 38 ac and, as usual, I enjoyed exploring the result of discovering the theme.

Easylistener - if you have a Bradfords, looking up "hundred and sixty" should give you a starting point for 4d. The latter part of 14a is a fairly obvious anagram. Hope that helps.

Thanks silver solver. Bradfords did indeed help that one. And the anagram you hint at I had been thinking from the beginning but still doesn't feature as a word in Chambers. Any help with 1a,2d and the beginning of 14a?

Ever since the angst experienced by many about using the correct colour for Samuel's "SETI" puzzle, I have always felt vaguely silly when using highlighters as a solving aid! I am now in the throes of the "Spectator", and, as is my wont, I have highlighted the unclued entries in a rather fetching canary yellow. Silly or not - it works for me!!!

Just completed the grid and have the last three words of the 7 word phrase, so hopefully nearly there...fairly easy going so far, a bit like the last bank holiday Listener

I'm a newbie to the Listener! The preamble looks straight forward so if you all say it's fun then I'll take your word.

I mananged Hexes by Stick Insect OK and several clues to Bandmaster last week so with my aides close at hand here we go!

No avatar as yet - searching for something suitable in husband's extensive photo library! Footie yesterday a total disgrace, but I still finished yesterday evening so this week's offering can't have been too difficult. I have a lingering doubt over the unchecked letter in 28a. I have a suitable answer, but as I don't understand the French lawyer bit, I am wondering if it could be anything else. Suffice it to say that my answer uses an unch towards the end of the alphabet!

Teuchter2 That one caused me problems, too - I was prompted in the direction you have gone. Reverse your first two letters and hunt in Chambers!

I am intrigued by daag's suggestion to Tritram37 - a thorough use of Chambers. I reckon there are about twenty-two thousand 10 letter words in there, so how thorough must I be to find an unknown one?
