A colony of bacteria grows at the compound rate of 12% per hour. Initially there are 200 bacteria

a) How many will there be after 3 hours?

b) How many will there be after 1 day?

I can answer a) no problem but on part b) is there a formula to just do one calculation rather than doing 24 calculations? thanks in anticipation julie

a) 200 x 1.12^3

b) 200 x 1.12^24

^ indicates "to the power of"
after n hours there will be 200 X (1.12 ^ n), and round down

a) 200 X (1.12 ^ 3) = 280 (280.9856 rounded down)

b) 200 X (1.12 ^ 24) = 3035 (3035.725... rounded down)
