MM Links Solutions June 2010 [Week 4
17 Answers
In the words of that classic pop song ~ “The sun is out, the sky is blue. There’s not a cloud to spoil the view, but it’s raining – Raining in my heart”. There is no prize for guessing why! 4-1 Say no more!
As for the last round in the MM Links Game for June, I warned you to try a bit of lateral thinking. You’ll know what I mean when I disclose my chosen links under the theme “Those Damned Weeds”. They are as follows:
Butter SCOTCH (Reasonable)
Cup BOARD (A little naughty)
Dandy PRAT (An obsolete coin ~ Devious)
NEMEAN Lion (As killed by Hercules ~ Fiendish)
In general terms, I ALWAYS check spelling so those who changed their predictions from Dandy Dinmont (the correct spelling is Dandie) were taking the correct evasive action. However I would NEVER allow something like Dandy Nicholls, as she is very much a British actress and relatively unknown amongst our overseas entrants.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It must be said that points were much more difficult to find this week and it took tearinghair (Entrant #4) and rockfordhill (Entrant # 9) to cash in on BUTTER SCOTCH for TWO POINTS. Shortly afterwards, grannydi followed by owllady and seekeerz opened the CUP BOARD to find their TWO POINT rewards.
They were followed swiftly with ex-champion ulysses100 offering the devious DANDY PRAT for a well deserved TWO POINTS before the clock denied further bonus points on these first three links. There were still single point scorers in Handbaglady, missmeg, mirandasmum and x-ray (all going for a helping of Butter Scotch), however it was Christiana who attracted special attention with her (unique) “double whammy” with Cup Board & Dandy Prat for Two Points. I was tempted to give more in view of the fact that she was staying with friends and had to wait her turn for internet access! However, I would merely be “gilding the lily” since she would already rise to the top of the leader board. I therefore take great pleasure in nominating Christiana as HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK AND TOP CAT ON THE JUNE LEADER BOARD!

Actually it was 4 -2 Crofter!
Well done Christiana, I am many things but not a lateral thinker! I just post the first thing that comes into my head and even with Crofter's advice I knew I would be on a hiding to nothing if I tried to deviate from my usual approach.......I was on a hiding to nothing by sticking to it but there you go!
Thanks Crofter for overseeing the proceedings as always

Top of the League Table
TEN POINTS: Christiana
EIGHT POINTS: Grenmus
SIX POINTS: Alibobs, centrino, Dinkypuzzled, paulineward, rockfordill, roslyn251254, seekeerz & Strix
FIVE POINTS: barb7771, gen2 & grannydi
FOUR POINTS: Dustybun, Handbaglady, jan1956, jobjockey, joto, ulysses100, twix123 & x-ray
Once you begin to eliminate the MM ex-champions from the table (above), then the name rockfordill shines forth as a worthy successor to the MM Links Throne. I would therefore appreciate help from anyone who can facilitate contact between myself and rockfordill.
For now, this is crofter signing off.
Until we meet up again: HAPPY LINKING!

Dusty, the reason some of us jumped for Dandy Dinmont (sic.) was because of the crofter/Scottish possible connection:
For more info on Dandie Dinmonts read this:
Greyfriars Bobby terrier on list of endangered species
THE Skye terrier, the dog immortalised for its loyalty in the story of Greyfriars Bobby, is facing extinction, having been betrayed by the British public.
The dog, whose famous ancestor refused to leave his master's grave, has been revealed as the least popular breed in Britain and could soon be lost forever.
Last year only 30 Skye terriers were born in Britain, in comparison to 45,000 labradors. The Kennel Club of Great Britain is so concerned by the plight of the Skye terrier and other unpopular breeds that it has held a "crisis meeting" to plan a comeback for the dogs.
A "red list" of unpopular types of dog includes other Scottish breeds such as the Dandie Dinmont terrier, named after a character in Sir Walter Scott's 1814 novel Guy Mannering, of which only 89 were registered with the Kennel Club last year, and the deerhound, 160 of which were registered.
