I am always knackered. and literally falling asleep at work and dosing off whilst driving (yep not ideal) is it the weather, my contact lenses or hayfever? the hayfever tablets im taking suppose to be non drowsy :-( they only last 10 hours.

what would you recommend to boost up my energy? I'm taking Bassetts soft and chewy daily energiser (dont think that really works but has alot of diff types of vits), drinking lucazade.

although I hate bananas - do bananas really boost up your energy??

Bananas are good for you they are full of potassium, vitamin B6 and fibre, they are supposed to give you a boost, This weather is draining to most people, no wonder they have siestas in Spain. Drink plenty of water, eat light meals, and try to get a good nights sleep.
I TAKE VITAMIN 6. If I forget to take it I feel tired. It could be the weather, if you're concerned at all, a trip to your GP would be a good idea, especially as falling asleep at the wheel.
Whitebears, have you had your blood sugar level checked? I agree with rd14962.

askyourgran, i bought two bananas and had one earlier today, didnt really enjoy it at all, the 'fair trade banana' from sainsburys were awful :-S it was really dry and tasted like powder. Ive had better bananas - del monte-
but still im not a fan of them. is there anything else that i could have instead of bananas?

I do drink lots of water, but it keeps making me going to the lou at least 20 times a day lol and i have at least 9 hours sleep aday and wake up still tired. :-( I really hate this weather. i wish it was winter again!!!

rd and dusty, no i havent had my blood sugar level checked, is it symptoms for diabetics?
The weathers not helping, loads of my friends and myself are knackered, although not falling asleep at the wheel.....have you been sleeping alright? Also try eating porridge oats they release energy slowly throughout the morning!
I'd get my thyroid levels checked out too. Sluggishness, loss of concentration and memory are all symptoms of low thyroid levels.

lil, porridge gives me pain in me stomach. sleep wise is ok, but i do wake up few times having sneezing fits or runny nose!
I agree that you should see your GP for a check up, he/she may need to request thyroid studies, an anaemia check or a sleep study. You really should think again about driving while you feel so tired/sleepy. I apologise if you feel that I am preaching about the driving.

thanks marie :-) i know its not ideal driving whilst feeling sleepy - its not that im speeding or anything. always stuck in traffic.

i think i should see my gp. cos im getting worried. thnks guys
I'd give the bananas a miss - they contain tryptophan, a protein which enables the brain to produce serotonin which can act as a mild sedative. Maybe not exactly what you're looking for if you're having trouble staying awake. I'd go see the dr if I were you, falling asleep while driving is a bit worrying. Do you snore at all? Snoring and sleep apnoea can cause you to be really tired as your normal sleep patterns are being disturbed all the time. Whatever it is you should get it checked out x
Forget energy boosters:

1)Dehydration comes to mind in this hot weather.....check that your urine isn't concentrated.
2) It could be the "non drowsy" hay fever tablets
3) Under active thyroid "screams" for investigation
4) Anaemia......are your periods heavy?

I agree with the posters....see your GP
Could pregnancy be a factor?
Hi! NoM....bloody hot here...A/C on most of the time.
How are you doing?
Hey you !

I'm superb ta. Tbh, I don't miss the intolerable heat of June to late Sept. The only thing I'm missing thus far is my Sunday Paella. :-)
NoM LOL....I know what you mean,,,our villa is A/C throughout and boy do we need it.

Take care.
did nobody notice the op has hay fever???
It can and does make you feel bloody horrible including making you tired. You could be sneezing 'in your sleep' where by you may not know you are sneezing but you awake from any decent sleep to sneeze ergo you will be tired. On some days you can feel as if you have had no sleep for days and you can constantly feel as if you have a nasty cold
But yes, certainly see your GP and take it from there
I felt like this - traced it back to 'non-drowsy' hayfever tablets which turn me into a zombie. They also took a day and a half to wear off.
It can also be your body telling you that your mind is under too much stress.
I'd knock the 'energy' stuff on the head - it's simply sugar and caffeine, too much of either will give you a brief rush then crash n burn. You need eat and drink sensibly with stuff that will release energy slowly eg lean meat, wholegrain-based, pasta.
As others say, get your blood sugar levels tested a a precaution.
ojread2.......damn, didn't notice the hay fever bit.
