Seventh-day Adventist Church

I am not a religious person - but I accept that is my view and that everybody should be able to follow a religion of their choosing.

However I get confused by all the religions and their rules - I have come across the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Wiki and have tried to read (and understand) the information given. It was in too much detail and I got lost.

Is this a normal, mainstream religion? Is it extreme in its views?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks - too many "thou shalt not" for my liking.

I think that I may start up a new religion The sad thing is that, in todays society, people are looking for a cure to stresses of modern life. Someone saying - "Pay me money and I will absolve you of all your sin and let you into the paradise that awaits you after death" is going to find some followers.

Religion should be - "do unto others.......". Or maybe "Pray to the Moggie(s) and they will think about letting you live in peace. ;-)

Actually it just confused me even more.

JWs are the people who have no sense of time and think that nine on a Saturday morning is an acceptable time to come and annoy me.

You know, wolf63, starting a new religion is not a bad idea; I've often thought about it. I mean, just think of all the indulgences religionists receive.

I could go around threatening to kill people who don't share my faith; I could cover up child abuse; I would be asked to serve on official bodies even though I know nothing about the subject under discussion; I could practice homophobia (ugh! no, no!). What I mean is that I could ignore all sorts of laws on the grounds that my religion makes other laws that take precedence.

Now I need a little time to decide what immunities my new religion will demand...

OOO Chakka! Can I be one of those people who go around knocking on doors for your new religion .... can I? Oh, go on.... do say yes! I'm used to public speaking, so I could even get a soapbox out in shopping centres to spread the word if you like. I have a whole stack of holy books I could take with me and with that lot, if my listeners are gullible enough, I could convince 'em of practically anything!! (I would offer to become a founding nun, but that might be taking things a bit too far, don't you think?). :o)

The amazing thing is that people would join up in their droves. I was brought up with a very healthy cynical attitude towards religion. I know that some people find comfort in it and that to others it is a social network.

But for me? Nah!
