Why do we bother?

I am sick of questions on here like
4d 13a scuppered
15d 28a stuck
etc
why do people go away and get the answers for this kind of lazy request? All it is doing is showing that this is ok, and they will continue to do it.
There are also so many replies that do not receive any thank yous.
I suppose I should not come on this site if I dont like it, so I will retire.

Yes I agree with you grasscarp - I have asked several people today to elaborate on clues, word length, etc., - only to find that kind ABers who already have that newspaper just give the answers! It won't help those weak posters to learn how it needs to be done, so we can all have a go.

.. I don't mind googling sometimes because it expands my own knowledge, but it's the straight crosswords answers - I do like to have a go myself but we don't take any daily papers. We can but try!

I agree. And some posters don't give the exact clue or get the letters wrong - e.g. they say a word has six letters and then show something like m?n?e

And why are some posters still putting the whole clue and letters in the title box and just saying something like "help please" in the details box

One person yesterday gave some clues and never mentioned that the answers had to ne nursery rhymes.

And then there's Lovatts where there's often more incorrect letters given than correct ones

But it all adds to the challenge I suppose. We enjoy it really

I have to agree with everything you have said here.
Personally I thinkm it is just plain b....y laziness most of the time, although occasionally it is crass ignorance ! Added to this, of course, is an inability to read instructions which really doesn't help.
Anyway, please hang in there grasscarp, we would miss you if you left us.

grasscarp, I think we "bother" because we're addicted to helping people !! I agree with everything you and others have said - must confess I give answers if I have that particular crossword .I've stopped helping now when the answer can be googled. Don't retire- you'd be missed!

Totally agree. Some years ago I started answering some of the questioners by googling and explaining how I got the answer in a few seconds, but to no avail. Everyone on this site is sitting at a computer, so one can only assume it is laziness. Sad, but true. I've now become selective with my answers.

And even more amazing is when they have more than enough letters to look it up in the dictionary eg CAD---Fly.( Or don't people possess dictionaries any more?)
