Is the preamble to EV 926 more convoluted than usual or am I just not getting it?

We are told that 10 across clues contain a misprint and that misprinted letter and the correct letter will spell out 2 names relevant to the theme.
It says that the two letters can be in either order but I feel this cannot be correct?

Can anyone please clarify and if possible give me an example of a clue.

Thank you

It is correct: write the pairs of letters in a column and read down, switching either left or right so it makes sense. This was actually a very straightforward, dare I say easy, EV...
Hi graudian.

The preamble is a bit long but there were so many aspects to the puzzle it was probably necessary.
The point about the two letters in the across clues is that they can be in either order but once you've established which are misprints and which are corrections you must stick to that order.
As an example 6a (the first affected clue) reads
'Jolts cane sofa' (4) This is an anagram of sofa (indicated by cane). OAFS therefore
are DOLTS. The correct letter D can be placed in the margin and J (the misprint) next to it.
All the other 9 corrected letters will therefore be placed under the D.

The affected clues end at 44a and you should have 2 names from the 2 columns.

I hope this is clear.
Sorry QM1 you weren't there when I started typing.
Interesting, Kayak. I hadn't spotted that consistency - but then the names were so obvious from the theme!

Thanks both for your help.
Sorry, kayakamina, I don't understand what you're saying. If it's that all the misprints spell out one name, and all the corrections the other, that doesn't seem right. My first two misprints, for example, are J and A, (jolts and fane) and first two corrections D and I (dolts and fine). You have to switch between them for the names, as Quizmonkey says, unless I've done it wrong.
Yes you are right.

I've had another look through the order of the letters and they are not as I first thought.

Apologies for that and any confusion.
No worries. I thought I was going mad (again)
