I'm looking for a book on London, written by a female author about ten-15 years ago. I can't remember her name or the title of her book. It was very thick, with a red paperback cover and described the development of London from pre-Roman days to about the 18th century. The scenes through the ages are seen through the eyes of one family line.

I lent the book to someone.... well, you know the rest !

I would dearly like to get another copy because it accurately describes the building ,naming and day-to-day life of the London streets I know so well, and the erection of the Tower of London in considerable detail. I think you would say it's a historical novel but the degree of research is staggering.

Many thanks.

I can only think of Edward Rutherfurd 's London .That was a saga type family thing that started off in pre Roman times. He also wrote Sarum .But he's not a female .))

That's the one ! Afraid I got the author's gender wrong; strange how the memory plays tricks when you get past eighteen !

Thanks, Shaney.
