a rubbish clue again.
22d - log(note) round n(note) = long
burn presumably used here to yearn.
an even worse clue.
this crossword has become awful.
example 4d = enact.
clue is stickup to perform.It gives
cane up t(from to) pathetic.

have to agree with baitress, many of the clues and answers are difficult to justify.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I had PALLING from the "losing its appeal"bit of the clue but couldn't relate it to the rest. And of course "to burn" is to long. I agree with baitress that some clues in recent times have been not very helpful.
