I've noticed something strange over the last few years.
Often during the night in these winter months (anywhere from 1:00am till dawn) I hear bird song exactly like the dawn chorus in summer!
It's definitely not the drink (joking) as a farmer neighbour remarked on hearing the same thing recently....anyone else noticed this?
Incidentally, we're in a remote rural area in the north Pennines.

The first up in the morning and the last to go to bed many do sing throughout the night. Anything can start them off - usually lights, but even in the darkest of nights a sudden noise will stimulate them into song.
Occasionally Blackbirds will also join in the nocturnal choir practice.
