Hello,
I have recently received a wave of emails from regular Q+P users who have noticed that some quiz related posts have been ending up in categories like Weather and Music.
After talking with the technical team and reviewing the posting process myself, we can safely say there are no technical problems with The AnswerBank that would make this happen.
If this is the case, we can assume that these "renegade posts" are down to human error. This problem has snowballed as users visit the thread to answer then unwittingly post their own quiz questions in the same category.
So, I would just like to remind you all to be aware of which category you are posting in. The category you are currently in is now highlighted in the menu on the left, and your browser title should also indicate that too. You should check this each time before you press submit.
If people are still experiencing this problem please email the Editorial team and, if possible, provide screenshots of what you are doing that results in the post going into the wrong category.
Many thanks,
Ed

People post in the wrong categories all day, every day, so its not a particularly unusual occurance. It's just that Q+P is more populated then every other category and the chance of something like this snowballing is considerably greater.
It is the only conclusion we can come to at the moment, but if the problem persists beyond these warnings then we'll know if something is up!

I understand what you are saying, "Why Weather and not somewhere else?". This is what I thought too.
You have to understand that all it takes is one person to post in the wrong category for it to snowball out of control. Weather is largely unpopulated, so the thread timeline isn't interspersed with weather related questions. If someone posted in ChatterBank for example, others who visited the category would know that they're in CB because of the volume and frequency of other posts.
In weather, just 4-5 misplaced Q+P questions could make the category look like the Q+P page. Then it would be easy to assume that you were in Q+P and post there anyway. It's an easy mistake to make. Also, there are hundreds of misplaced questions on AB everyday, so for this to happen isn't too strange.
If this is a technical problem I will eat my gnome hat and video it for you all to see!

Dear Ed
The problem arose when logging into the answerbank site from google - if like so many others including me, you used the Q&P subheading to go directly to that site, then that would have taken you directly to Weather - if Q&P is where you expected to go, then it's unlikely you would have checked the heading - like so many of us did.
The problem is now fixed as that subheading has been removed, so thanks, Ed

And x number of hours later, I've just logged on to find the naughty subheading is again available and guess what !! it does exactly the same thing - click onto Q&P and you go straight to Weather, so Ed dear, I think it muct be a technical problem inspite of all your protestations to the contrary. So perhaps another look at it might be in order as we're approaching the weekend and that's when Q&P gets really busy
