Security problem?

I can no longer log into any websites with a secure password screen.  I can't get into my on-line banking (two different banks) or another website that I subscribe to and is password protected.  One of the banks and the other website, I get to enter my password etc but then the screen just goes blank and nothing happens.  The other bank won't even go as far as to enter the password, just clicking on the 'on-line banking' button brings up a blank screen.

I have absolutely no problem with any other site and have logged on to all three sites mentioned above from work, so it is definately something at my end.

I have recently uninstalled Norton Insternet Security and have downloaded the free version of AVG, could this be connected?  I have checked the security settings in IE and they are all set to the default setting, as they always have been.

I'm not very technical so please keep any answers in understandable terms!

A long shot (as you mention IE), but are you definitely using IE? A friend of my Dad's swapped him to Firefox, and it doesn't work with a number of banking sites (and the Natinal Lottery site).
