Info on Reg Plate
Someone knocked into me in the snow last winter and the impact smashed my front registration plate. I went to Halfords who made and fitted a new plate for me. Today someone told me that my plate isn't legal because it only has the registration number and it should have some sort of marking at the bottom to say where it was made/where the car came from, as the original plate on the rear of the car does.

This is normally shown in the centre at the bottom of the plate. This was introduced in 2001 when the new character style and two digit year identifier came into force, but applies to all registration plates made up after that date regardless of the year of the vehicle."

we had a local crook do that with all this stolen road equipment - essentially he had one legit vehicle as to its VIN number - he then copied it onto the stolen - when the police pulled over a vehicle of his, it cleared.....
What sunk him was burning 2 mln of Devon and Cornwall's heavy road equipment as he had lost the scouring contract. They found 14 vehicles on the same site all carrying the same VIN

He also got done for drugs, blackmail, money laundering and was exempted from holding two customs officials against their will. Obviously a nice guy......
Believe he is on 14 years in Dartmoor or Exeter prisons.....probably out in 5 to 7
