GRRRRRR
why is the standard answer to questions "google it"?
I know that google is a search engine thanks, and may or may not have already used it, but want opinions, or ideas, or i may not have understood the answers i got. I see the answerbank as a search engine too and don't see google as superior necessarily. If i want straight answers to q's i might well go there, but sometimes i want people to say "aha, the answer to your question is blah blah blah, but had you also thought about this that and the other"
so there you go!

ps, if anyone does a search and finds out i've answered "why don't you google it" im not interested :) :)
There are some questions that can be got with google...with no need for discussions or opinions.
I think that response is OK when the query is about facts, but many questions have answers that are not straightforward.
Though I have to admit to liking to Google,as it always leads me to a bit of new knowledge or curiosities.
Some, more obviously, fact-based answers ought to be googled and included in the question itself. But more 'opinion-based' questions ought to be addressed as requested by the OP.
You could Bing or Ask Jeeves instead ;o))))
I remember when Altavista was like the only search engine. Back in the day of 14.4k dial up.

I think it is because a lot of people just post questions that could easily be answered if they just Googled their question! They dont want a discussion just a quick answer.

I wonder if the AB has ever been cited in the Harvard referencing on someones Uni paper?
Isn't it all about ... "interaction" ?

Some people would rather communicate with other people, instead of the Google super-computer.
The ones that get me are those that preface their questions with "I've looked everywhere" and then go on to ask a question like "what city is the Eiffel tower in"
I do say google it when it's a factual question, or sometimes I post the google link to the page of websites. I do it when the question is factual and obvious like the one the other day asking for the history of cadbury's chocolate
Yeah Chuck they are the ones that i think the Google reference is and should be aimed at! Perhaps they just dont know what a Search Engine is i guess?!
I must admit that some of the Qs I ask here is because other people are better at Googling than I am. Then I just follow the links. Is it laziness or ingeniousness, I don't know.
You can always tell when there are kids asking questions with regards to their homework. The whole point about homework is to do it yourself by searching then you learn.
