How to and why?

A couple of questions.

Firstly, how can I play songs I have on my laptop through a PS3 and onto the TV? The PS3 can find the files on the laptop, lists the tracks, but won't let me play them through the TV. When I try is says it's unable to play them and to check the media server settings. I have 'allowed streaming' on the laptop, but to no avail. The sample tracks you get on the laptop play fine, but not the downloaded tracks.

Secondly, with my PS3 I got the 'PLAY TV' tuner as well. I also have Freeview on my TV, but some of the channels which I can get on the tuner, cannot be picked up on the TV when it's channel scanning. Why is this?

1) sounds like the files are either in a format the PS3 can't play, or have copy protection embedded in them (DRM)

2) try swapping the aerial leads over and if the missing channels also swap to the other device then that's the problem, if it makes no difference then it may just be because not all TV tuners are equal, some simply work better than others, though a small booster may help, if it's a borderline low signal a better aerial is the best solution.
Why cant you play the music on your laptop direct to the TV rather than going through your PS3?
I was wondering that too VHG
Might want to play the music while playing a game, that's why I do it on the Xbox.
I remember on the old PS1, you could pop the CD out and play yoru own music CDs once the game had loaded into memory.
