At first, I thought it may be Angel. If letters were not correct.
Although decorations, sounds like it may be a plural, ending with an S. ?

Hi Aelred, can you tell us all how you got the two E's. I thought of three answers it might be, but now you changed the letters I am not sure.

Are you sure the drink is TEA and not ALE?
If it was ALE, that would then make it ?E?L?
I think the answer should end in "S" (SOME decorations, meaning perhaps its a plural answer)
That would then give us ?E?LS
and the answer could then be BELLS ?
this is just my guess.

Just the meal "washed down" with a drink, that has three letters, Aelred gave tea,
I offered that it might be Ale. (my guess) thats all. I might be wrong, I've been wrong before!

I agree Polly1958 there are a few other answers it could be, but it is very hard trying to help to solve a clue when you are not doing it, and don't have the copy in front of you. I don't know how the letters connect.......
