London Visit to Arsenal Stadium

Single traveller not familiar with London .. arriving Victoria Bus Station on a Sunday morning and needs to book overnight stay (not expensive) ..he has booked tour of Arsenal stadium and plans to do some sight-seeing. Can anyone advise the best area/hotels to be based at for safety etc.. many thanks

London is one of the safest cities in the world. Admittedly there are a few areas where I might be reluctant to venture onto unfamiliar streets at night, but they're nowhere near to tourist sights or the main hotel districts (or indeed, to the Emirates Stadium).

London has also got (despite the moans of some Londoners!) an excellent public transport system, meaning that the traveller could stay almost anywhere in London and have little difficulty in getting to Arsenal's ground (or to the central tourist attractions).

However the nearest tube station (unsurprisingly called 'Arsenal') is on the Piccadilly Line, just three minute walk away. So it would seem sensible to look for accommodation with easy access to that line. Kings Cross/St Pancras tube station is only 3 stops southwards. It's also excellently located for getting (via the Piccadilly & Circle Lines) to many tourist attractions. Given that the area around Kings Cross probably has more cheap hotels than anywhere else in London, it would seem an obvious place to stay.

As well as hundreds of small (and sometimes seedy) hotels, most of the big chains can offer accommodation in the area, including Premier Inn

or he could stay near Victoria; Victoria line to Kings X then Piccadilly line to Arsenal, pretty straightforward journey. Do check ahead for weekend tube closures, though.

If he gets the tube to Arsenal station he can walk past the old Highbury ground on his way to the Emirates (it's not far) can see where the pitch used to be (now surrounded by luxury flats).

Excellent advice offered to you here from Chris and other good folk, but would just like to say that your friend will enjoy the tour so very much.........our boys support Arsenal and have been up to see a few matches at the Emirates and it is truly an awesome stadium to behold. :0)

Hope he has a special day there and enjoys the brilliant sites of London.

Still, in my opinion, one of the top 5 cities on the globe.
