Staying at my sisters flat while they are away and I'm starving. There is a Tesco chicken and bacon sub in the fridge that has an expiry date of yesterday. Will it still be ok to eat or would asking this question be the last thing I ever did?

How do they know it will go out of date exactly at midnight on the expiry date? Provided it doesn't smell off I would eat it - how do you think people managed before expiry dates?
get it darn ye neck
As long as the fridge is at the correct temperature (and your sister didn't leave the sub in her hot car for several hours before putting it into the fridge), it will be perfectly OK to eat. The chicken and bacon would be OK for several more days but, because it's probably got mayonnaise on it, I wouldn't want to eat it after today.
If it smells ok, then nuke it and enjoy if that's all you have!........

Good point! I don't usually care about that sort of thing, if I want it I eat it.

I think I'm lonely and bored tonight and filling my head with thoughts that if I eat about 3 pieces of diced chicken that expired yesterday I'm going to snuff it in the flat all alone to be found tomorrow night with the cat eating the crumbs I have dropped down myself. lol.
Is it "Best Before" or "Use By"?

Best before - recommendaton.

Use by - Qualifying date.
eat it

Suppose I'll be doing them a favour too. If I eat it then it'll save them having to walk all the way over to the bin with it when they come home. :o)

If nobody hears from me in the next hour or so please send an ambulance to Milly143, London. Ta!
meats is usually use by no mercy as will go off. Thinks like cakes and jam, sugar foods are best before as never actually go off just go stale
can i just say how i love that this post is headed 'quick food question' but been put in chatterbank lol

hhmm, I had a look 4get in the hope that I could help but as per usual....no.
aww thanks naz. I feel more wanted now
Are you looking after your sister's flat while they are away? Pity she didn't leave you some nice goodies instead of an out of date sub roll!

I stay here quite a lot (they go away quite a lot) and they used to leave me food but I never eat it because I'm a fussy cow so they leave me cash to get my own food now but I was too busy shopping earlier to think about it. I had hoped the bag of giant chocolate buttons would see me through the night.
Have you eaten the damned thing yet?!
Question Author
Yeah, I ate it. Was pretty grim to be honest but I'm not hungry anymore.
