47A As with many of these ancient god clues there are various spellings (Hecuba, Hekabe, Hecabe, Hecube), obviously the shared letters have to match but when doing the just crossword for pleasure the others are not critical.
BUT
What is the protocol when entering competitions, does it have to match the variant that the author had in mind?

In my experience, unless the wording of the clue leads you to think otherwise go for the most popular.
In your above example I would choose, Hecuba.
