quizmail Babylon
Fort Babylon is whee I started originally.
It doesn't seem to fit with "modern English name of modern country"
Still not convinced any of the suggestions are right.
This is going to be the one that stops us all getting 150!!!

Have a look at this old chestnut and read the paragrah about Old Cairo.

Well I am giving up on this link but this is what is says about Old Cairo
"Old Cairo
Old Cairo was constructed by the Persians in approximately 500 BC to guard the junction of the River Nile and the canal linking it to the Red Sea. It has been inhabited since AD 313. During the Christian period the settlement became known as Babylon in Egypt, and grew into a large town. Later the Arabs changed its name to Qasr Al-Sham'ah (Fortress of the Beacon). It is located on the east bank of the River Nile about 3 miles south of Midan Tah Rir. The churches (and there are numerous) do not charge admission and few request tips (baksheesh), but most do have donation boxes. To experience Coptic culture, it is best to visit on a Sunday; however, if you want to explore the sights in peace avoid Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. If time is limited, check out the Hanging Church (Church of the Virgin), the Church of St. Sergius, the Church of St. Barbara, the Ben Ezra Synagogue (Egypt's oldest synagogue), and the Coptic Museum to get a good grasp of the settlement's importance to and position in Egypt's history."
And thinking about it, we know that there is a Babylon in Iraq but if that is the Babylon they want, all they had to do was ask "In what modern country does Babylon now stand"? There would be no need to mention Qasr Al-Sham. The inclusion of Qasr Al-Sham surely just moves the location of the answer to Egypt whilst still leaving the opportunity for some people to "dive" in with the Iraq answer.
Yes Bobadob,
When I originally found the answer to 124 I was happy that the references I had found only referred to the answer being "Miss Thompson", imagine, therefore, the horror that hit me finding a debate going on here because there appears to be the alternative answer of "Rain". Lord only knows what Vic and Dave have got written on their answer sheet.
Actually my theory is that they don't actually know what the answers are until they get Phil Smith's entry, then they use his answers to mark everyone elses. He obviously had Santa Isabel last month.
Only kidding, good luck to him, I only wish that when we have questions like these where there seems to be more than one valid answer, that just once, alright go then more often, they would actually pick the one that we pick.
