Relative of mine...

Has had another stroke, first was earlier this year. They are very depressed afetr losing the feeling in both hands, (very down indeed) even more since the last one), but they have a real fighting spirit....at least I think (truly hope). Not seen them yet but will shortly, but meanwhile want to send a card this weekend, full of (completely BIG TIME - non soppy BTW but polite) which will hopefully help them pull through. They speak expletively in a jokey manner (sp) most of time, which means that swearing, really, isn't an issue - especially just now, although it has to be polite expletives that are use - hope you know what I mean... Really hard to say "Be polite to the nurses and (for want of a better word f*****) pull yourself together we love you SO much", been really hard. Any suggestions are great. Sensible answers only please.

An important part to remember is that sometimes someone needs to be sad to get better. If they ever want to cry it out, don't discourage it! It's healthy and a good way to get the brain jogging again. Just make sure they know they aren't a burden to the caretaker, and things can always get better. Encourage physical therapy when it comes to the hands. How did the stroke happen? How old is your loved one? Hope all continues to get better! Best wishes, Addie. x
