Mm And Km Links Feb 2013 Week [1]
3 Answers
It is an exciting time in the 'Shrubbery'.
The snow has all gone and with it the scoreboards have been wiped clean. That means that the new month brings a clean slate to both the MM and the KM versions of our regular guessing games.
The KM game is run from Australia by seekeerz and is based upon whatever Kate Mepham (KM) chooses to highlight in the Saturday GK crossword in the Daily Telegraph and linked to whatever she chooses in the Monday Herculis crossword. Your job is to pre-empt her and guess the links before midnight on Sunday. The game is launched in Q & P early on Saturday morning and you can play anytime over the weekend with an equal chance of scoring points.
The length of words is entirely up to Kate but has to fit in a 15 x 15 crossword grid.
The MM version of the game is a little different.
It is set each month by one of the players. This month we have a brand new setter going under the name of 'Emperor Kawakiri'.
A new setter = 'A New Beginning' which is what Google tells me is the meaning of Kawakiri in Japanese - so how very appropriate.
BUT if the name is split, 'Kawa' = 'river' and 'kiri' = 'fog' so could that be a sign that you are going to get some obscure links to guess?
Find out tomorrow morning in Q & P when the introduction will be posted at 8:45am with the challenge words following at 9am. You will have until 7pm on Sunday to guess those links but early play is advised because as each link is discovered, a bonus point remeins available for just the following two minutes. That means that if a link is first correctly identified at 9:08, then anyone correctly guessing the same link up to 9:10 will also score a bonus point (2 in total) later guessers of the same link can onlyscore single points.
Two additional bonus points are also on offer for anyone who can manage a full-house of 4 correct guesses and it has been a long time since that last happened.
The length of words for links in the MM game is limited to be from 4 to 8 letters in length. The resultant pairing must either be a new word or common 2-word phrase but will never be a person's name.
Why not play both games?
New players are always welcome.
The 'Shrubbery' gates are now open so come on in and socialise. Drinks are permitted but go easy on the chems (we are still reeling from when 'Sarumite' once introduced some 'magic mushrooms' to the party).
Until tomorrow morning then,
Happy Linking

Secondly I did see your photo of the male long tail duck
- spectacular - what a treat that must have been.
