High Street Shops

A few days ago, I had an hour to waste, waiting for a Doctor's appointment, so I thought I would browse in town centre shops, After a few minds, I wondered who really uses the big High Street names anymore !

W H Smith seemed to full of high prices and frippery. I bought my Guardian there but at the till, someone tried to sell me a chocolate bar I didn't want.

Boots just seemed to be an irrelevance....there was nothing in there that I couldn't have bought from any Supermarket and bought more cheaply.

Burtons seemed to full of tat !

Do many many people drive into their town centres to use shops like this anymore ?

Look closer. Boots sells loads of stuff that can't be bought in supermarkets, as does W H Smith.

Our town centre is always packed. It amazes me, where all the money comes from.

The range that Boots has can't be compared to the supermarket.

I get most medical type things from the bargain stores...paracetamol..plasters...savlon..cough bottles...lemsips...etc etc

Ummm....you may be right about Boots, but as a man I don't need 100's of different shampoos, or make-up. It just looked a little tired

I should add that our town centre is all covered but the biggest draw, I think, is thousands of free parking spaces.

Maybe you don't Mikey but I have an 18 year old son who is quite fussy with his products. Pain in the bottom he is...

Years ago Boot's were value for money. Now you pay over the odds. I never use them, I prefer my local pharmacy.

Sam....here in Swansea, we have free parking on Sundays, but the rest of the week we have to pay.....£5 for 4 hours !

Ummm....the huge range of shampoos have puzzled me for years. They are, after all, just detergent, with colour and fragrance added.

also shampoo ..shower gel..air freshners...household cleaners...choccie biccies...bin bags...gosh I get a lot in Home Bargains....must save a fortune

Mikey...I have to disagree, there can be a huge difference in brands. I suppose if you have very short hair it wouldn't make much difference but when you have longer hair it really does. They don't necessarily have to be more expensive.

I but cheap shampoo for my OH...

What an horrendous parking charge Mikey especially for those who work in the High Street shops and have to drive in to work.

Minty....I am a fairly new convert to Home Bargains, and I think its wonderful ! We have 2 very close to home and they are always packed. One of them is opposite a lovely new Lidl, so its shopping heaven for me.

Yes, mikey. I've noticed when I go to neighbouring towns for any reason. Convenient parking is often difficult to find and always costs an arm and a leg.

I use the natures essence shampoo which is less than half the price in HB than in Boots.....

It's free parking here in Cam, in Dursley, in Wotton-under-Edge, in Stroud, Stonehouse and just about everywhere else locally.

parking is one reason the shopping "parks" are winning over high street..most of these larger cut price outlets have free parking
