A  picture of a kestrel on the village church roof which is only 50 metres from my house, taken when here on a visit in the Summer by my daughter Katia; who knows a lot about birds.

We were sitting in the garden and she suddenly said, "kestrel ! "  sure enough there it was and she grabbed her camera.

I looked up what is German for kestrel and it is, Turmfalke      ( tower falcon ) - interesting !

It's also a sneaky way for me to send you all a Christian image at this time of the year.

Cheers! Khandro.

Lovely

Here's a very poor photo of a young buzzard on my roof this summer. He stayed for around 8 weeks after fledgling, seemingly constantly calling for his parents. He must have thought they were in my chimney.

Sneakiness accepted Khandro, nice shot of a common but often misidentified bird.

Shame it's just out of focus barry, are you sure the parents were not it bringing food when you weren't looking? Otherwise I can't see how it would have survived.

Glad you like the pic. rw

A nice picture khandro, it's the sort that will appear on the front of Parish Magazines!

Young buzzards will call for food even after they learn to scavenge for themselves,   eventually the parents will drive them away but by that time they will be fully self sufficient.   It was probably being fed early morning and late evening only at the time you photographed it

Khandro, he had fledged and was flying, probably was being fed from time to time by his parents but my chimney was his perch. The nest was in the woods at the bottom of my garden - he was like a student, left home but still expecting his parents to feed him and do his laundry.

Buzzards stay in the same area for around 8 weeks after fledging, until they are fully independent

He was calling down my chimny at all times of the day. Made a change from the blerdy wood pigeons complaining about their knees hurting and calling for Betty 😁
