Independent New Year's Resolution Cryptic Puzzle

Anybody good at Cryptic clue solving ?

'Each of these five seasonal riddles has a one-word answer. The first letter of each answer makes a word that desribes something we all make at this time of year.
1 A place to avoid later or a short,violent usually Mexican drink.
2 Something you do to snuff,crumpet or someone you like.
3 I'm occasionally bitter,pale but never small,and I don't feel well.
4 Merry-making or a mixed bag of chocs.
5- What not to be until after midnight (horizontal,often squeaky).

Only possible solutions I can think of ;

2- Toast.
3- Ale.
4- Revel.

Whole word could be Start with 1 being Sangria although I don't understand the place clue with this.

Any help would be very much appreciated and would be a great New Year surprise for me !

Many thanks pomlazka ! I suppose with your answers to 1 and 5 plus mine for 2,3 & 4 would give the word START which I suppose everybody does make at this time of year ?
