Longest Rivers

No cheating. Purely to satisfy my own curiousity, can you name the longest rivers in England, Scotland, Wales and - the whole of - Ireland off the top of your head? No Google searching!

Odd question I think, I can only answer one with certainty and that is the the Shannon is the longest river in ireland, as it is the longest in the British Isles. I am pretty sure the Severn is longer than the Thames so it would qualify as the longest river in Wales and England. But if you mean wholly in the country and not part of an other for England that would be the Thames and some other river in Wales. As for Scotland I am pretty sure that is the Tay and now I shall go and have a look.

Sorry TW but even as a Weegie I can't stick up for the Clyde as the longest river in Scotland is the Tay (120 miles if I remember rightly)....Now it gets slightly awkward as stated because the severn flows through both england and wales so both could lay claim to it so I will disregard it for the moment and give you the longest river in each country totally within it border...Wales is the Towy (or is it spelt Tywi? can't remember) and england is the Thames....Ireland is as stated the Shannon and Northern Ireland just to be complete is the Bann which flows through the Largest Lough in the UK, Lough Neagh.....I remember all these from a quiz set a few years ago which raised merry hell due to the ambiguous wording.
