torn ligaments or musles in knee...advice please

3 weeks ago ive done something to my knee , the knee swole up and it seems there is still fluid in it, i will not go to a&e to sit and wait 6 hours to be seen only for it to be dressed, can maybe do that myself, should i put a knee support / bandage on it ? how long does it take ligaments to heal? i know the bones are not broken so no sense in waiting to get appointment for x ray but its still the same more or less even after 3 weeks . im hoping with rest it will get better.

using volorol twice daily but with ligamnent damage this gel probably is useless anyway.
