We want to install some lighting for the car parking area at the back of our block of flats - however we don't have power access to the back fence. We need some kind of lighting that either stays on all night or is the type that is action-motivated but stays on a decent amount of time. Can anyone recommend a brand/type?

Umm if you dont have power access how are you going to run it. Most of the security lights are motion activated and have a little timer that you can set for how long you want it to sray on. From 10 secs to about 2 min which is usually long enough.
Would solar lights be any good?
Yes power access is a major issue. First of all you have to arrange electricity there. Just get some electricity and decide in the beginning how the bill will be divided..
Battery operated lights are available

Sounds like you need a cordless extension lead.
lol BS : )

If it's a fence .. it is vulnerable. The lights will be destroyed or stolen.
Can't you get something 12 feet-odd up on a masonry wall anywhere (with guards over them?) They (steel lamp bodies, not plastic) want bolting on with rawlbolts into 10mm plugs so they can't be hooked/pulled off.

The solar battery type are the ones we wanted to use - but we've now decided to go for mains one on the wall of the building which will stay on all night - thanks for your replies though
