I'm trying to learn about cycling as a sport but there doesn't seem to be any sources of basic information online (as in simple explanations of the rules etc) - it seems like you're either in the know already or you aren't!
Can anyone advise me about any of the following?
1) The differences between kinds of cycling - for example cyclocross, road racing, mountain bikes etc.
2) What the actual rules are for, say, team races and individual events (Do they even HAVE indivdual events?)
Are there any good sources of information for people with an interest in gaining a knowledge of the basics? It's more an academic interest than anything else I suppose - I'm just curious about how the whole thing works...
At the bottom left of that page you'll see a column headed 'Different types of cycling'. Click on a type of cycling which might interest you. You'll find lots of information including (in the left hand column) a link which will allow you to download the full rules of the sport. There also 'About . . ' and 'Get into . . ' links, which will guide you further.
