Tricky one: it just gets thinner and thinner as you go higher. About 100km is a sensible figure.

I have heard the following metaphor: imagine an orage tightly wrapped in a sheet of paper. If the Earrth were the size of an orange then the atmosphere would be the thickness of th epaper.

I can't be bothered to do the arithmetic to check this, but I like the point it's making.

The internationally defined boundary for space is set at 100km, but as already said, it just gets thinner and thinner the further 'up' you go.
