How to clean a whitemetal medallion

I have a whitemetal medallion commemorating the opening of Crystal Palace in 1851. It's a bit grotty. Does anyone have an idea of how I should clean it without damaging.

You may not want to take the risk until you've checked this out on Google but I recall that putting things like this in a glass of coke can work well.

To make a good tarnish-removing solution for non-ferrous metals, take one teaspoonful of Cream of Tartar, one teaspoonful of washing-up liquid, mix to a smooth paste with a little cold water, and fill up with half a pint of very hot water (but not boiling). Immerse the tarnished items for a minute or two, rinse, and clean off with something non-abrasive (metal polish, kitchen cleanser, ...).

I also have heard of coca cola. I tried it on an old tarnished penny and it does take off the dirt and restores the colour. I use steradent tablets on china mugs as my husband drinks black tea which does stain.

Coco cola will do it . I've used it on coins. It also dissolves enamel on teeth. Keep checking it,every few minutes, don't leave it in too long ,
I should imagine steredent would work although I havn't tried it.

It's a bit of history and I wouldn't attempt to clean it. I'd ask a jeweller for advice.

Modeller: cancel that suggestion of Steradent! There was another query here recently about an attempt to clean a silver ring with Steradent - the result was that it turned completely black which wouldn't come off. So not a good idea in general.
