any maths bods about? simplify 37/39??

Anyone know if it is possible to simplify 37 over 39?

My boy - and I agree - that it isn't possible but then I am no expert and he is 12 :)

Anyone confirm?

37 is a prime number, so that's as simple as it's going to get...

37 is a prime number so has no factors other than 37 and 1.
39 has only four factors: 1, 3, 13 and 39,
As 1 is the only common factor you can't simplify 37/39

Maybe it's a typo and meant to be 36/39 - in which case, it would be 12/13.

Thanks everyone - he thinks it was a trick question designed to catch them out - I was pretty sure that it couldn't be simplified but been a long time since I did Maths - I'll need to refresh myself :)

Something else at school I never got the hang off.
I could never see the point of logarithms, algebra and all that stuff.
I couldn't make head nor tail of it either so that didn't help.
So long as I could add up, take away, multiply and divide that's all I've ever needed to know.

Simplifying fractions doesn't really come into the same class as logarithms... it's so easy

And ".9487179" shows you can use a calculator.... it doesn't even come close to answering the question.
