Shadows On Lungs (Not Me!)

Breathlesness and wheezing. Chest x ray revealed shadows on lungs. Hospital has requested futher x rays and MRI tomorrow. Apart from the obvious possibility, what else could the shadows be?

p.s. its a male, aged 40, heavysmoker .

Chronic Bronchitis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Sarcoidosis, Pulmonary TB.Allergic Alveolitis..........and on and on and on......

Besides lung cancer, shadows on a chest X-ray image could indicate pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, lung abscess, TBC, other granulomatous inflammations, Echinococcus larva, fibrotic changes, foreign bodies, pleurisy etc. Of course, all these disorders have specific X-ray image marks that can be used for differentiation. In certain cases, an X-ray image is not enough and additional advanced diagnostic procedures are required like CT/MRI-scan or bronchoscopy.

Blimey, they are long lists! So could be anything, imagine the MRI will be quite useful then.
Most likely is pneumonia or COPD.
