delayed neutrons

... or prompt neutrons.

The answer depends on whether they are emitted from the source [prompt] or one of the products [delayed].

Ask a proper question!
Nothing wrong with the question spinchimp. The answer is neutrons.
first described by Chadwick who was from NZ and working in Manchester at the time and afterwards prof of phys in the Clarendon Oxford
Right name, wrong country!  Chadwick was the neutron man, but was born in Cheshire.  He did work extensively with Rutherford who was of New Zealand origin.  The latter is credited with the saying: "only believe half of what you see, and nothing of what you are told", so check this link: http://nobelprize.org/physics/laureates/1935/chadwick-bio.html
PS it was the Cavendish, not the Clarendon.  Didn't they have something to do with books??
