Hi

I am trying to buy "The Mother Tongue" - audiobook by Bill Bryson but I can't find it anywhere! The usual suspects (Amazon, eBay etc.) have loads of Bryson audiobooks but not the one I want!

Does anyone have an idea of where I can get it? I would prefer a downloaded version to transfer to my mp3 player but if necessary a CD would do.

I know that this audiobook exists, as I had part of it once but it was a bad copy and several chapters were missing.

Virgin Media actually blocked me from going into a couple of the torrent sites ~ I presume that means that they are doing something illegal on the sites.

Wolf, I tried this and it wanted me to register, kept sending popups then wanted to download an executable file that my virus checker didn't like!

It looks very dodgy but thanks for your help! I can't understand why it's not available to purchase from Amazon etc?

@janzman @jno These both look like scam-sites. They ask me to register, try to get me to download dodgy executable files, and have pop-ups all concerned with porn and betting!

I don't mind paying for this Audiobook - it's great - but I can't even find it on sale anywhere!

Wolf - I just tried iTunes - good idea, but unfortunately they don't have it there either! They had a lot of Bryson book (not the one I want though) and several episodes of other books (teasers I guess), but again not "The Mother Tongue". Beginning to think it's been banned or something!

Have you enquired of a book store? My local book shop (independent) is excellent in obtaining books within 24-48 hours. Might be worth a phone call or two.

@mier - I am looking for the Audiobook on CD or download. I'm not sure local bookshops are up to speed with these yet! Thanks anyway

I've checked the WHSmith site and it is only available in paperback format. There is a guide to it available under the education department but in ebook format not audio,

It looks like you might have to either use one of the torrent sites or buy the book and get someone to read it out loud for you and then listen to the recording.

Bill Bryson has a Facebook page ~ but he probably doesn't know what formats his books are available in.

Thanks for all your suggestions! None of the libraries I belong to have it, and it doesn't appear in any shops. I KNOW it was at one time an audiobook because I have it (pirated!), but there are chapters missing, chapters replaced, and gobbledygook speech. It's a terrific book so I hope I'll be able to replace it but am rapidly running out of ideas!
