May I Ask A Question?
13 Answers
I was recently criticised for not asking a question on this subject, well ok I will bow to popular demand and ask a question, but be careful because I will be watching to see if any of my accusers are also disciplined enough to always ask a question, well here is my question;
Why do Muslims regard it perfectly in order to stage their own Muslimah World competition, yet issue threats of violence against other's Miss World competition?

You asked:
"Why do Muslims regard it perfectly in order to stage their own Muslimah World competition, yet issue threats of violence against other's Miss World competition?"
The answer is that you're talking about two different sets of people.
One set of people organised the beauty pageant. The other group of people are terrorists.
That's basically it.
Not all Muslims hold exactly the same beliefs. It's the same with Christians. Some are absolutely 'hardcore' and others are notably liberal.

As sp says, Muslims come in many flavours, exactly the same as Christians.
Some Christians believe it is wrong for people to use contraceptives; other Christians believe it is okay.
Some Christians believe gays should marry in church; others oppose it.
Some Christians flail themselves, others don't.
Some Christians take Communion, others don't.
All the major religions have divisions.

ANOTHEOLDGIT, looking at the photos in that link, do you not think the women in the Muslimah contest are dressed a wee bit differently from those in the Miss World contest? Do you not think that may be the reason some Muslims support the Muslimah contest and some Muslims oppose the Miss World? I suggest you make more use of the word 'some' when talking about Muslims rather than suggesting they are all of one mind and belief.
That is an easy question to answer.
Because they are not the same muslims. Some muslim countries, such as Turkey are quite happy to send a contestant to the Miss World Competition where as other countries, such as Saudi Arabia will not. The reason is that muslims are different and diverse and some are strict and others are relaxed.
You are probably christian but that doesn't mean you spend saturday afternoons threatening and murdering doctors because they work in abortion clinics. Some christians do, but not all of them.

As others have inferred it's all about sex, sorry sects. No, seriously, the Muslim world is as diverse in its religion and practices as Christianity is, all mainly due to early history and interpretation of the Koran and the various Haddiths. I am sure you are more than aware of Shiites, Sunnites, Wahhibis but then there are Sufis, Ibadis, Hashemites, Kharijites, Ahmadis and several others.....different practices, 'health' acceptance, leadership structures, etc, all akin to what happens in the Christian domains.
And one last point, in my experience, the large majority of Muslims abhor the extremism and violence that a few practice or extol - aren't Christians the same - a few quick thoughts about Northern Ireland should underpin that comparison.............Understanding the drivers, the commonality in practices, and differences is the key, ignorance between us all so prevalent in both religious communities.
